A woman accused of poisoning both of her parents with insulin, in separate murders more than a year apart, has denied the allegations and been ordered to stand trial.
Raelene Polymiadis said “not guilty, sir” in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday when asked whether she murdered Brenda and Lynton Anderson in 2022 and 2023.
She will now stand trial in the Supreme Court - but a date for those proceedings will not be set until August at the earliest.
Ms Polymiadis, 63, of Craigmore, was charged with two counts of murder over the alleged insulin poisonings of her non-diabetic parents, Brenda and Lynton Anderson, both 94, in 2022 and 2023.
Released on bail after collapsing in court cells, she was frozen out of her parents’ estate – including a $1m property and almost $200,000 cash.
Ms Polymiadis was rearrested in January and accused of breaching her home detention conditions with shopping trips.
Prosecutors alleged she argued with and lied to authorities about her movements, displayed an “attitude of entitlement” and made three mystery stops at a Buddhist temple.
Ms Polymiadis’ lawyers have claimed there is “nothing similar” about the alleged murders, and last month asked for more time to get “fully across” the “enormous” case.
On Wednesday, counsel for Ms Polymiadis told the court they were ready to proceed, and that their client maintained her innocence. After formally taking Ms Polymiadis’ pleas, Magistrate Simon Smart remanded her on continuing bail to face the Supreme Court in August.
