A diabetic woman charged with murdering her parents with her own insulin has been released from custody after the prosecution withdrew their application to review her bail agreement.

Raelene Polymiadis, 63, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday where she was granted bail by Magistrate Benjamin Sale after being arrested on January 5 for breaching her bail conditions five times.

After making an application to review the bail in the Supreme Court on Monday, the courts confirmed early on Wednesday afternoon that it had been withdrawn – Mrs Polymiadis had been in custody since Friday.

It is understood she was released from the Adelaide Women’s Prison late on Tuesday evening.

The court heard on Monday that Ms Polymiadis’ breach of bail included five different incidents, including a time where she met an unknown woman at a northern suburbs shopping centre.

“She tells a lie about ‘I’m going there to the chemist’ and she doesn’t go anywhere near the chemist,” Magistrate Benjamin Sale said.

“She shouldn’t have been there in the first place, let alone strolling around the shopping centre.

“It seems extraordinarily cavalier on her part.

“I don’t accept there’s any confusion, she’s on this bail agreement which she has in front of her … she’s complying for a couple of months and then it seems as if familiarity breeds a little bit of contempt, she’s decided to do some things which aren’t within the bounds of her passes and this is the consequence.”

Mr Sale said two of the other breaches of bail included Mrs Polymiadis allegedly stopping for a short period in front of a vacant lot and a nursery on Salisbury Hwy on separate occasions.

Mrs Polymiadis was arrested in July last year after allegedly murdering her two elderly parents, both of whom are not diabetic, by administering insulin to them.

Brenda Anderson, 94, died in hospital on March 15, 2022 and Lynton Anderson, 94, died over a year later on April 30 2023.

Mrs Polymiadis’ initial release from custody came after she experienced difficulties in prison including allegedly being forced to take the wrong medication to treat her diabetes.

During a Supreme Court hearing in July, barrister Marie Shaw KC, defence for Mrs Polymiadis, said prison medical staff had determined Mrs Polymiadis to be a type 2 diabetic, while her personal endocrinologist insisted she was type 1.
