Accused murderer Raelene Polymiadis will not stand trial until mid-2026 – and has told a court she wants separate trials for each parent she allegedly killed with insulin.
On Monday, the Supreme Court set a June 2026 start date for Ms Polymiadis’ matter, which is expected to run for between 12 and 14 weeks.
However, counsel for Mrs Polymiadis said they intended to file an application that their client stand trial twice, once for each alleged murder, which may further alter that timeline.
Ms Polymiadis, 63, of Craigmore, has pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder.
The charges arise from the alleged insulin poisonings of her non-diabetic parents, Brenda and Lynton Anderson, both 94, in 2022 and 2023.
Her lawyers, who claimed there is “nothing similar” about the alleged murders, have flagged the possibility of separate trials for each set of accusations.
On Monday, Marie Shaw KC, for Mrs Polymiadis, said her client’s legal team continued to receive evidence from prosecutors.
She and prosecutors agreed all material needed to be filed, viewed and considered before the matter progressed.
However, they also agreed any application for separate trials could be heard “well in advance” of the case itself.
Justice Sandi McDonald remanded Mrs Polymiadis on continuing bail to face a further pre-trial hearing in November.
