A young man charged with causing the death of a Pooraka nurse and injuring her husband by dangerous driving has been ordered to stand trial.

Prabnoor Singh, 21, of Ingle Farm, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday where he entered not guilty pleas to a charge of causing the death of Harpreet Kaur by dangerous driving and causing serious harm by dangerous driving.

John Wilson, for Mr Singh, told the court a case to answer was conceded and his client would instead plead guilty to two counts of aggravated driving without due care.

But Magistrate Simon Smart said he could not accept pleas to the alternate charge because they were not before him.

He ordered the case be sent to the District Court for trial.

At the time of the crash, which occurred about 10pm on August 4, 2022, police said Ms Kaur and her husband were in their Hyundai Elantra when Mr Singh’s Toyota Camry collided with them.

The Hyundai then crashed into a tree near the intersection of Montague Rd and Henderson Ave.

Ms Kaur, 31, died shortly after the crash while her husband was rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

In the aftermath of the crash, Ms Kaur’s family remembered her as a kind and generous nurse.

Mr Singh will next appear in court in September.
