A blackout at a major court building has thrown Thursday’s case lists into chaos as morning matters were redirected to a different building.
The Advertiser understands the power in the Adelaide Magistrates Court had been out before the building was due to open at 9am on Thursday, with management now directing some AMC cases across to the District Court nearby on Victoria Square.
A statement released by the Courts Administration Authority said the building was “experiencing a power blackout and there is restricted access to the building”.
Later, it said the power had been restored, but changes to venues for some hearings would remain in place until 1pm.
“Court staff will direct you accordingly.”
It is also understood a backup generator had been powering some of the building, but people can still expect some delays.
Committal court matters originally due to be heard in the AMC commenced before Magistrate Duncan in Court 2 of the Sir Samuel Way Building (District Court) at 10am.
General court matters will be heard before Magistrate Almeida in Court 1 of the Sir Samuel Way Building at 10am.
The outage comes after another blackout at the building on Tuesday morning, where power is understood to have been restored before most of the cases at 9.30am.
