A man who was allegedly busted with more than half a million dollars worth of cannabis at Adelaide Airport has faced court for the first time.

Edward Nguyen, 27 of Rosewater, has been charged with trafficking in a marketable quantity of a controlled drug after AFP officers

The drugs, with a street value of $650,000, had already been checked in for boarding before they were discovered by airport staff in May.

The bags had been checked in by a man on a domestic Virgin Airlines flight due to depart from Adelaide.

It is understood the sealed bags of cannabis had not been picked up by the airport’s X-ray machines.

In court documents, police allege Mr Nguyen was the man responsible for bringing the drugs on board, which is a commonwealth offence.

He was remanded on continuing bail to face court again in October.

His appearance in court comes the day after another man was removed from a plane and arrested at Adelaide Airport after a huge haul of cannabis was allegedly found in luggage.

7NEWS reported the Australian Federal Police seized 25kg of cannabis – worth hundreds of thousands of dollars – discovered in checked-in bags on Wednesday, August 7.

It is understood the cannabis packages passed through the airport’s X-ray machines and were set to be loaded on a Virgin flight from Adelaide to Sydney.

A man who had already boarded the flight was removed from the aircraft by police.

The 54-year-old was charged with drug trafficking and using a fake identification and is set to face court in November.

It is not suggested the two cases are linked in any way.
