The owner of classic cars stolen from a locked shed said the theft was organised and co-ordinated by someone who knew what they were looking for.

Between Saturday, March 16 and Sunday, March 17, the vehicles – a blue 1978 Ford XC Falcon and a 2009 black Holden Commodore ute – were taken from Sam Brumfield’s property on Kepa Rd, Murray Bridge.

Mr Brumfield, a talented speedway driver, was away in Mount Gambier racing in state titles when the heist happened.

He told The Advertiser he returned home to find his shed had been broken into and his cars, valued at about $80,000, gone.

He said the thieves had cut the power to the property.

“They knew what they were doing … they went to the fuse box turned the power off, made sure the cameras were off and got out the bolt cutters and they were in,” he said.

Mr Brumfield said he believed the thief or thieves would have known he was out of town and would have gone to the shed with the sole purpose to steal the expensive cars.

“Someone knew I owned (the cars), knew that I was off for the weekend and came and took them,” he said.

He said he was angered his prized cars were targeted by other members living in the community.

“This kind of thing needs to stop, people need to go back to work rather than do what they are doing,” he said.

“We are hard workers, we work hard to get what we get and someone comes along and takes it,” he said.

Mr Brumfield said a couple of social media users had provided some leads but the investigation was in the hands of the police.

Police confirmed on Monday they were investigating the theft of the two unique cars and are appealing to anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
