The family of a young driver who died after his car rolled, went airborne, and slammed into a tree in the Adelaide Hills this week.

Tyson Cox-Rice died at the scene of the crash while two other teens were injured.

His brother, Clayton Cox-Rice, took to social media to pay tribute to his 25-year-old sibling.

“I don’t even know where to start, words fail me,” he said.

“He will be sadly missed by so many people.”

The grandparents of the young man attended the scene of the crash on Thursday and told 7NEWS they were heartbroken.

Jeannette Rice had a warning for other road users.

“Be careful, drive safely,” she told 7NEWS.

Her warning comes as a friend Sean Alexander Mitchell paid tribute to the young Blair Athol man.

“Forever heart broken, you were such an amazing soul and such an amazing heart will forever miss you man. I pray for your family and friends, forever in our hearts.” he posted.

At about 10.20pm on Wednesday, December 20, emergency services were called to Mount Barker Rd, Hahndorf, near Leonard Rd to reports of the crash.

His two passengers, a 20-year-old Elizabeth South woman and a 19-year-old Blakeview woman, were injured in the crash and taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

The passengers’ injuries are not considered life-threatening.

SA Police Inspector Michael Turnbull said police believed speed was a factor in the Hahndorf crash.

“It’s another example on a rural road, if you’re not familiar with the road and you’re going at a speed not appropriate, the chances are you’re going to lose control of the vehicle.

Mount Barker Rd residents Lucas Schiblhut, 22, and his mum Adelaide Schiblhut, 49, were among the first on the scene along with a neighbour and other drivers after hearing the crash and screams from their nearby home.

Mr Schiblhut said the crash scene was horrific with the car in the middle of the road on its roof.

“I heard it from my backyard and I started running up the road towards the crash,” he said.

“There was a lot of screaming coming from the girls and the male driver unfortunately had already died.

“But everyone was trying to help and we were trying to take the front passenger door off.”

Ms Schiblhut said it was devastating for the family of the young man who died.

“I feel for the families because all of a sudden Christmas is totally different than what it should be for them,” she said.

“It’s another loss of life.”

Major Crash investigators examined the scene overnight and police believe speed could be a factor

Mount Barker Rd was closed as Major Crash investigators investigated overnight but has since reopened.

The young man’s death is the 110th life lost on South Australian roads so far this year, compared to 66 at the same time last year.
