Photographer Angus Meek, 53, revealed as cyclist killed in horror accident in Fullarton

A 53-year-old amateur photographer can be revealed as to who died in a horror cycling crash near a school on a busy Fullarton road.

A “kind” father-of-two and amateur photographer became the 108th life lost on South Australia’s roads when he was hit by a car while cycling just a street away from his home.

Angus Meek, 53, died on December 13 after being knocked off his bike into the path of a white Mercedes driving behind him on Wattle St, Fullarton outside Sunrise Christian School just after 8am.

CCTV footage shows Mr Meek being hit by an opening car door that made him fall onto the road and killed by the car driving behind him.

The Unley resident who had a German shepherd named Kai, worked for the Department of Environment and Water in the IT department and was well-known among other cyclists in the office.

A colleague, who didn’t want to be named, said Mr Meek was always kind to the people he met in the bike room at work.

They said there was a bond among the cyclists that used the office facilities.

Mr Meek’s neighbours remembered him as an artistic man who worked as a cartographer.

His online profile showed him as a talented photographer.

His photos, many of which were taken on Kodak film, often captured his children, dog, Adelaide city and the outback.

Neighbours also said Mr Meek looked after the local community gardens and his passion for all thing nature related shone through the various photos of flowers and animals.
