A mother-of-four has described her terror after a molotov cocktail was thrown at her St Agnes home on Thursday.
Trine Holst, 46, said her family started hearing noises outside their home about 11pm.
“My son had woke up … and said he heard footsteps outside his bedroom window and some whisperings,” Ms Holst said.
But she dismissed the 10-year-old’s concerns and put the noises down to foot traffic and the wind.
“Half-an-hour later I heard this almighty bang; it shook the windows, it shook the walls, like everything was moving,” she said.
“And I’m by myself with my four little kids – I’m too scared to go outside and look – so I just stayed inside listening and I remember hearing this car taking off.”
Ms Holst stayed inside until her neighbours came over to check on her and her children, as well as let her know that they put out a small grass fire.
Once the police arrived, Ms Holst said it was “obvious” someone had been on her property and opened the garage door.
“The police showed me that the shed door was opened and I was shocked to see that because I always close everything at night,” Ms Holst said.
“We saw a carjack that had been pushed up against the roller door to hold it up so it’s obvious someone has come in and forced the door to open.
“My partner has got some really nice cars in there and it’s obvious whoever attacked us knew that.”
Ms Holst said it was a “miracle” the firebomb missed the cars in the shed.
“We’re lucky they missed.
“My kids are absolutely petrified, they’re very scared and they don’t feel safe in their own home.”
Ms Holst said it was not the first time her home had been targeted.
Previously they have had someone smash their car windows and throw paint on their vehicles.
She believed the attacks had been perpetrated by the same person.
Police are urging anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online.
