A woman who allegedly slashed a security guard while she fled a northern suburbs shopping centre with allegedly stolen goods will not be released on bail – by her own choice.
On Wednesday, Milica Stamenkovic, 27, appeared via video link in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court.
Counsel for Ms Stamenkovic, Omar Ali, told the court his client was withdrawing her initial application for bail – which was lodged after her arrest by SAPOL.
Ms Stamenkovic is accused of slashing a security guard from the Elizabeth City Centre after allegedly stealing Lego and clothing from Big W with her sister.
It is alleged Ms Stamenkovic allegedly ran to the Elizabeth bus interchange, chased by the security guard.
Body-worn footage and bystanders allegedly captured the security guard being slashed with a razor blade.
During her initial application, the court heard the Andrews Farm woman posed a “danger” to the community and her offending “put members of the public at risk”.
Ms Stamenkovic is charged with aggravated theft using force, and assaulting a police officer while her sister, also 27, is yet to face court for a single count of theft.
The court heard the 27-year-old had recently been convicted in February of this year for 11 counts of like offending including assault, disorderly behaviour, resisting arrest and theft in the District Court and was on three bail agreements at the time of arrest.
The court previously heard that after her arrest, Ms Stamenkovic had been administered a “missed” dose of medication to treat her mental health conditions.
Magistrate Karim Soetratma remanded the 27-year-old in custody until her next court appearance in December.
