Allegedly stolen car speeds through cricket game

A man who led police on a high-speed chase through an in-progress cricket match has pleaded guilty to a raft of charges, including being high on drugs behind the wheel.

In the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday, Troy Gary Wilson pleaded guilty to seven charges ranging from stealing a car through to deliberately driving at pedestrians.

Wilson, 29, of West Hindmarsh, was arrested following a police pursuit in May that started at Largs Bay, wound through the northern suburbs and ended at Bowden.

Previously, prosecutors alleged he drove a stolen Holden Calais into multiple cars and people, including a police officer, and through an in-progress cricket game.

On Monday, counsel for Wilson told the court the number of charges against their client had been reduced through negotiations with prosecutors.

Wilson pleaded guilty, by video link, to stealing the car, carrying an offensive weapon and five counts of driving in a dangerous manner.

Those five offences are considered aggravated because Wilson’s driving sparked a police pursuit, and because he was both disqualified and under the influence of methylamphetamine.

Wilson was remanded in custody to face the District Court in February, when a date for sentencing submissions will be set.
