Driver in stolen car leads police on wild pursuit through North Adelaide

A driver in a stolen car sparked a wild police pursuit which saw him crash into innocent passers-by and a police car before driving through the parklands as people played sport, police say.
The owner of a stolen red Holden Commodores sedan spied his vehicle – which had been nabbed the previous night from Royal Park – being driven in Largs Bay and alerted police about 3.20pm Sunday.
After following his car, the owner stopped near the car and approached the thieves before being threatened by another man holding an axe.
The armed man, along with a woman and another man, got back into the stolen car and drove off.
Patrols flooded the area and found the Holden travelling southbound on Port Rd, then south on Main North Rd at Gepps Cross about 3.45pm.
It was spotted again in North Adelaide and a police pursuit ensued through several backstreets.
As it travelled through O’Connell St the car allegedly crashed into two people, and failed to stop before smashing into a police car on the corner of Barton Tce West.
Police stopped pursuing the driver when it drove through the parklands past people playing on the sports field.
Ankit Shrestha was live streaming the moment the allegedly stolen car screamed through the cricket game between the VXL Titans Cricket Club and The Finishers.
The stolen car kept driving past several cars that were stationary at traffic lights at the intersection of Jeffcott St and Park Tce, before crashing with two cars and forcing another driver to avoid a crash.
The vehicle was found abandoned shortly after on Park Tce at Bowden and two occupants ran off, but were quickly arrested by police.
No-one was injured in any of the crashes.
The Holden was also allegedly involved in two petrol thefts in Largs Bay and Wingfield on Sunday.
The driver, a Parkside man, 29, and a Para Hills West man, 26, were arrested and are expected to be charged with a host of serious offences.
