Police Minister Joe Szakacs extended this support to the South Australian police force, following two serious crashes across the state on Friday.

“This is the same group of police, the same police family who are yet again putting aside their own grief and putting aside their own trauma to respond to the needs of South Australians,” Mr Szakacs said.

“I want them to appreciate that while all of us are grieving, the police family are picking up, getting on with their job and they do that bravely.”

On Friday, Charlie Stevens – son of Police Commissioner Grant Stevens – was placed on life support, after a hit-and-run on Beach Rd in Goolwa during Schoolies.

Charlie was struck by a car just after 9pm and was flown to Flinders Medical Centre, where he remains.

Earlier in the day, emergency services rushed to the intersection of Main North and Montague Rd, Pooraka at 9.24am, after reports of a two-car crash.
