Man, 24, dies in crash at Kersbrook in the Adelaide Hills, as another driver makes lucky escape at Lower Light

A man has died after crashing his car into a tree in the Hills overnight. Meanwhile, a driver has escaped with just minor injuries after plunging down a 15m embankment.

A man has died after crashing his car into a tree in the Adelaide Hills overnight.

The crash happened on Kersbrook Rd near Bagshaw Rd about 9pm Thursday.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident overnight, a driver was lucky to survive after plunging 15m down an embankment at Lower Light.

Paramedics rushed to Kersbrook but the driver, a Gawler South man, 24, died at the scene.

Major Crash Detectives were at the accident spot on Thursday night examining the circumstances that led to the crash, and the road was closed for several hours but has since reopened.

Flowers were left at the scene on Friday morning.

The man’s life is the 72nd life lost on South Australian roads compared to 64 at the same time last year.

It comes as a truck driver came to the rescue of a trapped motorist who plunged down an embankment off Richardson Rd at Lower Light on Thursday.

A truck driver noticed tyre marks going off the roadway towards the river around 3pm. He could see part of a car upside down at the bottom of Light River.

He stopped to investigate, and climbed down the embankment to discover a man trapped in the vehicle

The truck driver called emergency services and the driver was later rescued by fire crews and paramedics.

The trapped driver said he had been stuck in his vehicle overnight and was not able to dial for help as his phone was damaged in the crash.

The Klemzig man, 32, was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.

Police are urging road users to drive with care ahead of the long weekend.

It follows a fatal dirt bike crash on a private property in the state’s Mid North on Sunday.

Braiden Schiller, 25, died after hitting a pothole at a property in Maude, near Morgan.

Tributes were flowing for Mr Schiller, a diesel mechanic, who was remembered as a generous man who would do anything for anyone.
