The couple charged following the home invasion and death of top physician Dr Michael Yung will stand trial – one for murder, the other for assisting an offender.
On Wednesday, Kerem Aydin and Jacinta Davila faced the Adelaide Magistrates Court to answer charges arising from an incident in December last year.
Mr Aydin pleaded not guilty to having murdered Dr Yung, and to having broken into his Gilberton home with the intention of committing theft.
Ms Davila pleaded not guilty to having assisted Mr Aydin to avoid arrest, and to having impeded SA Police’s investigation, following the alleged murder.
Dr Yung’s immediate family, including his mother, listened from the public gallery as the duo entered their pleas.
Mr Aydin, 23, was charged with one count of murder and aggravated serious criminal trespass in a place of residence.
Ms Davila, 28, was charged with assisting an offender.
Previously, prosecutors alleged Dr Yung’s home at Gilberton was broken into, via a ladder through an upstairs window, by strangers intending to steal property.
They alleged the intruders encountered Dr Yung and, after a scream and a loud noise was heard, he was found with critical head and spinal injuries from which he later died.
They further alleged Mr Aydin and Ms Davila were arrested after they shoplifted medical supplies from shops at Torrensville to treat wounds he sustained in the incident.
On Wednesday, Magistrate Justin Wickens remanded Mr Aydin in custody, and Ms Davila on continuing bail, to face the Supreme Court in December.
A date for trial will be set at that hearing.
Ms Davila did not comment outside of court, nor did Dr Yung’s family.
