A man who allegedly stabbed his brother in the stomach and assaulted his mother in a violent family dispute has faced court.

A man accused of trying to kill his own brother who was searching for his mother’s car keys – and then scalping his mum as she tried to intervene – has returned to court.

Kane Gregory Robin Swift, 35, faced the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday charged with attempted murder and assault causing harm.

After prosecution confirmed they were proceeding with the charges, Stephen Ey, for Mr Swift, asked Magistrate Patrick Hill to adjourn the matter – submitting he needed an “opportunity to review the information and check some CCTV”.

Court documents allege the altercation occurred after Raymond Drechsler – Mr Swift’s biological brother – and Lisa Swift – his mother – visited Mr Swift at his Elizabeth Park property in April to retrieve Ms Swift’s car keys.

Prosecutors allege, that upon Mr Drechsler and Ms Swift knocking on the door, Mr Swift emerged from the house wielding a hunting knife.

He then allegedly pursued and stabbed Mr Drechsler in the stomach, leaving the knife embedded in the wound, as stated in Ms Swift’s police statement.

Following the alleged stabbing, Mr Swift is accused of placing both hands around his brother’s neck for 30 seconds.

When Ms Swift attempted to intervene, Mr Swift allegedly pushed her, causing her to fall and strike her head.

Documents further allege Mr Swift then turned on his mother, using her own hands to strike her head, before forcibly removing chunks of hair from her scalp.

Mr Swift was allegedly observed returning to his residence, then chasing his brother into a neighbouring home armed with a galvanised metal pole.

It’s alleged witnesses said Mr Swift used the pole to pin his brother against a tree by the neck.

After bystanders disarmed Mr Swift, he allegedly ran into the street – imploring the driver of an oncoming Mitsubishi to “run me over, kill me”.

When the vehicle remained stationary, Mr Swift allegedly returned to his home, entered the red Ford SUV his family arrived in, and reversed at speed into the Mitsubishi’s trailer – narrowly missing his brother – before crashing into a tree.

He was arrested by police moments later and Mr Drechsler was rushed to hospital with the knife still sticking out of his stomach.

The documents further allege the brothers had a history of “violent altercations”. and had been involved in an argument over the phone and on text messages earlier that day.

On Wednesday, Mr Hill remanded Mr Swift in custody to appear in court again next month.

Family and supporters of Mr Drechsler and Ms Swift appeared in court but declined to comment on the case.
