Man charged with attempted murder for allegedly stabbing his stepbrother during a violent altercation in Adelaide’s north

A man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing his stepbrother – and then bungling his getaway.

A man has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed his stepbrother with a knife in Adelaide’s north on Tuesday.

Emergency services were first called after receiving reports of a serious assault on Billing St at Elizabeth Park on Tuesday, about 1pm.

When police arrived, the suspect was seen leaving the scene in a Maroon Ford SUV before it collided with a tree.

Officers then located an Elizabeth Grove man with serious stab wounds.

The Elizabeth Grove man was treated at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to hospital, with his injuries considered life-threatening.

Police Commissioner Grant Stevens said he was informed the incident occurred between close family members.

“My advice is they are stepbrothers,” he said on Wednesday. “Both known to each other.”

Mr Stevens said the older stepbrother, aged 36, is on the road to recovery.

Meanwhile, the 35-year-old brother from Elizabeth Park was arrested and has been charged with attempt murder, assault cause harm, illegal use, speed dangerous and driving under the influence.

On scene, Police Superintendent Julie Thomas had revealed the knife believed to have been used in the incident had been located.

Superintendent Thomas described the incident as “most confronting”, especially as there was “an amount of blood” in the yard where the stabbing occurred.

Neighbour Bruce Goodridge told The Advertiser that he heard a car fly past his house at around 1pm.

“It was making a hell of a racket,” he said.

“It sounded like it was on its rims.”

The 73-year-old said he has lived on the street for the past three decades, and that apparent from the occasional burnout, the street was “pretty quiet”.

Another neighbour said “it’s normally a really quiet street,” he said.

The Advertiser observed police putting what looked like clothing into large brown evidence bags outside the Billing St property.

The suspect, a 35-year-old Elizabeth Park man was arrested at the scene and is currently being interviewed by police.

Billing St and parts of Alexander St has been closed to all traffic while emergency services are at the scene.

Northern District Police believe that the incident is not random and both men are known to each other.

Police have asked anyone who witnessed the incident, or has dashcam or CCTV footage that may assist the investigation, or has any other information, to contact Crime Stoppers.
