A man who allegedly attempted to mow down police before leading a pursuit on the Eyre Highway, was captured and arrested after being tracked by a police dog yesterday.

About 5.10pm, police spotted a white Mitsubishi Triton ute bearing stolen plates at a roadhouse at Kimba on the Eyre Peninsula.

Officers attempted to speak to the driver, who then allegedly drove the ute at the police car and an officer, causing damage to the vehicle.

The driver allegedly refused to pull over and police pursued it on the Eyre Highway for a short time, before the chase was stopped for safety reasons.

The ute was later found stopped on Wilcherry Road at Moseley, where police searched with the help of police dog Judge.

The man was located at a nearby property, where he ran from police and was seen getting into a parked truck.

Police smashed the cab window and used capsicum spray in an attempt to arrest the man.

They say the man fled the truck and ran towards a police vehicle and kicked the windscreen, causing it to crack.

Police apprehended the 28-year-old Port Lincoln man and charged him with various offences including three counts of acts to endangering life, dangerous driving to escape a police pursuit and possessing prescription drugs.

He was refused police bail and will appear in the Whyalla Magistrates Court today.

Anyone who spotted the white Mitsubishi Triton ute with registration S525CAL or has dashcam footage of the ute being driven between January 18 and January 22 is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Shortly after, a man allegedly led police on a high speed chase through the Adelaide’s north before the late night hunt came to an end on a Salisbury East street.
