A man has allegedly led police on a high speed chase through the city’s north before the late night hunt came to an end on a Salisbury East street.

The incident began around 11.30pm, when police spotted a silver Holden Astra being driven suspiciously on South Rd at Angle Park.

Officers followed the car onto Grand Junction Rd and reported the car travelled about 120km/h in a 60km/h zone and on the wrong side of the road.

PolAir took over the pursuit and tracked the car as it was driven on Bridge Rd, onto Smith Rd and Onyx St before it came to a stop on Garnet Drive at Salisbury East.

The driver allegedly attempted to run from the scene but was caught a short distance away and arrested without incident.

The 31-year-old man from Blakeview was charged with dangerous driving to escape a police pursuit, breach of bail and he was also arrested on outstanding matters including four counts of petrol theft and theft of a motor vehicle.

He was refused bail and will appear in Elizabeth Magistrates Court today.
