A teenager has pleaded guilty to a random stabbing at the Noarlunga Centre interchange that left an innocent bystander with a collapsed lung.
Jayden James Spakianos, now 19, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday where he pleaded guilty to one charge of causing serious harm to another with intent.
The second charge was withdrawn.
A court previously heard the victim, Scott Wimshurst, was at Noarlunga Centre on September 3 when Spakianos and another male began to taunt him.
“The defendant and the other male were drug-affected, yelling at each other, then stared at the victim,” the police prosecutor said.
“The defendant then (allegedly) approaches the victim, saying, ‘I will kill this guy’, before stabbing him in the back”.
The court heard Mr Wimshurst, 25, left with a punctured lung, blood in his chest cavity and a collapsed lung.
He told 7NEWS it was the scariest moment of his life and that he panicked as he feared he would bleed to death.
He said his body went cold as he felt a warm liquid shoot down his back as he travelled home from work.
Hailing down a bus driver, he then asked paramedics to delay his trip to hospital so he could provide a description of the events.
“Even while it was happening, I was wondering … is this real?” he told 7NEWS.
“Immediately my first thought was. I’ve been stabbed – ‘oh my god, am I going to die’.
“The only thing that was crossing my mind was, if I die, I’m going to make sure he gets caught. Because, you know, I don’t want to die for nothing.”
Spakianos will next appear in the District Court for arraignment in March.
