Happy Valley man arrested for extreme speeding, drunk driving after Southern Expressway chase

A young man has been arrested for extreme speeding following a southern suburbs police chase on the Southern Expressway that saw speeds of almost double the 100km/h limit.

A man has been arrested for extreme speeding and drunk driving after being caught allegedly going over 180km/h in a 100km/h zone at O’Halloran Hill on Saturday night.

Police began pursuing the 23-year-old Happy Valley man after they were overtaken by a speeding red Hyundai hatchback on the Southern Expressway around 11:15pm.

The Hyundai was tracked as it drove through Happy Valley, Hallett Cove and through to Morphett Vale.

The man was nabbed shortly after police put down road spikes on Sherriffs Rd.

Three passengers ran from the vehicle with the driver arrested nearby by police.

However police were unable to find the other two occupants.

The driver, who had a disqualified licence, was breath tested, producing a blood alcohol reading of 0.063, according to police.

He was arrested for driving at an extreme speed, driving at a speed and in a manner dangerous, driving disqualified and exceeding the prescribed concentration of alcohol.

His car was also impounded and he was issued with a 12-month instant loss of licence.

He was bailed to appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on May 20.

Meanwhile, an alleged drink driver was caught in North Adelaide on Sunday morning.

Police stopped a Nissan 4WD on Robe Tce and breath-tested the driver, who allegedly produced a blood alcohol reading of 0.179.

Checks on the man’s licence revealed that he held a provisional licence.

A 25-year-old man from North Adelaide was reported for drink driving and breaching the conditions of a provisional licence.

He was issued with a 12-month instant loss of licence and his car was impounded for 28 days. He will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
