Four relatives of a woman who was stabbed in broad daylight in an alleged “attempted honour killing” have denied all wrongdoing and been ordered to stand trial.

However, a fifth member of the same family – the woman’s brother – insists he has no case to answer and the accusations against him should be dropped.

The woman’s father, 57, mother, 56, brother, 31, sister, 29, and brother-in-law, 28, allegedly conspired to stab the woman outside the Sefton Plaza shopping centre in November 2021.

It is further alleged they kidnapped her, denied her medical attention and, after she had been hospitalised, drained all but 17c from her bank account.

Prosecutors allege the father and mother were recorded, by police bodycam, speaking in their own language about the incident, only to be told by their other son to stay silent.

That man is jointly charged with his older brother over a home invasion, allegedly orchestrated by their mother, the night before the stabbing.

The duo allegedly broke into the wrong house, while armed with knuckledusters, demanding to know where their sister was.

In the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Thursday, counsel for the father, mother, sister and brother-in-law pleaded not guilty to attempted murder on behalf of their clients.

They said they would no longer seek to argue the charges should be dropped, and conceded the matter should be determined by a trial.

Counsel for the woman’s brother charged solely over the alleged home invasion pleaded not guilty on his behalf – he, too, was ordered to stand trial.

Those members of the family will face the Supreme Court in November.

Finally, lawyers for the brother charged with both attempted murder and home invasion said they would seek to have those charges thrown out ahead of trial.

Prosecutors said that would result in “a factually complex” legal argument.

Magistrate Simon Smart remanded him in custody until next month for legal argument.
