Ex-SA Police officer, drug dealer and rapper Hayley May Greenwood in Adelaide court over alleged illegal use of hire car, friend’s car

A corrupt former SA Police officer who made headlines a decade ago for all the wrong reasons – including a cringe YouTube rap – is back in court again.

Adelaide’s corrupt rapping cop back in court again

A corrupt, drug-dealing former SA Police officer who moonlighted as a prostitute and publicly defended herself by recording a rap video is back in court over her alleged misuse of other people’s cars.

On Thursday, Hayley May Greenwood – who once compared herself to Batman – returned to the Adelaide Magistrates Court charged with multiple dishonesty and illegal use offences.

She told the court she would be pleading not guilty, but Magistrate Kym Millard strongly recommended she speak to a lawyer first.

“It’s alleged that you illegally used a hire car by not returning it and that, when it was recovered, its licence plates had been removed,” he said.

“It’s further alleged you borrowed a friend’s car, transferred the ownership to yourself and on-sold it … the person who purchased it later informed police.

“You don’t have any relevant prior convictions for this sort of alleged offending but, given your previous history, I’d be concerned about the potential for a sentence of imprisonment.

“I’m not saying you will be found guilty, I don’t know any more about the circumstances, but your previous matters give rise to some concern.”

Greenwood, 34, of Hackham, has yet to plead to one count of dishonestly deal with property and one count of deceiving another to benefit herself.

She has been further charged with driving or using a motor vehicle without consent.

Police allege those offences occurred on July 13, 16 and 19 last year at Tranmere, Croydon and Dover Gardens.

In 2015, Greenwood was arrested on corruption and drug trafficking charges following an ICAC investigation called “Operation Calypso”.

The court heard that, when not on-duty, Greenwood was working as a prostitute named “Chase” in a Findon brothel and dealing drugs.

Greenwood publicly responded to the allegations by recording a rap video, in which she compared herself to Batman, and posting it on YouTube.

After falsely claiming she had been targeted by bikies, Greenwood pleaded guilty to keeping secrets from her patrol partner to protect a suspect, who was her drug-dealing partner.

She was fined and convicted for that offence, and then separately sentenced to four and a half years’ jail for trafficking meth.

On Thursday, prosecutors said they would be prepared to drop one of the charges if Greenwood pleaded guilty to the others.

They said they would also concede she should receive a suspended sentence or a bond if convicted as a result.

Mr Millard, however, said the case should be set for a pre-trial conference and remanded Greenwood to face court again in February – again recommending she see a lawyer.
