Former SA Police officer Hayley May Greenwood, who recorded a rap video about her corruption arrest, will be convicted of crime

Hayley May Greenwood also kept secrets from her patrol partner, during an investigation, in order to protect a suspect who was friends with her drug-dealing partner.

On Tuesday, she asked the Adelaide Magistrates Court not to record a conviction for breaching both her duty as an officer and the trust placed in her by the community.

Magistrate Brett Dixon, however, said Greenwood’s actions were far too serious.

“The public has a right to expect that its law enforcement officers are honest and reliable,” he said.

“This woman has never been able to develop the psychological tools to refrain from vacillating between good behaviour when she is in a well-structured environment, and bad behaviour when she is not.

“This offence is, in my mind, one of dishonesty — and to be able to find she won’t do it again is a high hurdle.”

Greenwood, 28, of Hackham, was arrested in 2015 by a joint SA Police/ICAC investigation.

She responded to her arrest with a YouTube video called “Sky High” in which she spoke of being “a superhero” and “wearing a disguise” like Batman.

Her case has taken a torturous path through the courts, including her unsubstantiated claim she had been targeted for retribution by bikies.

Eventually it was split in two — the corruption charge remained in the Magistrates Court while three drug trafficking counts went to the District Court.

Greenwood has pleaded guilty to those offences — occurring at Hackham in May and August, 2015 — and will face that court again on Thursday.

Greenwood will be sentenced in the District Court on Thursday for drug offending.

On Tuesday, Joana Fuller, for Greenwood, told the Magistrates Court her client’s crime was failing to disclose her connection to the suspect, not lying about it.

She said Greenwood’s omission had not affected the investigation and asked she be punished on the basis of “the potential risk of bias, not bias itself”.

Ms Fuller said Greenwood had turned to drugs, after first abusing alcohol, to cope with the death of a colleague and the loss of his “important influence” on her.

“She has a complex personality ... she graduated from the police academy exhibiting exemplary qualities, and has sabotaged that with poor judgment,” she said.

“It was obvious to everyone — except her at the time — that her drug offending was entirely incompatible with her work and duties as a police officer.”

Mr Dixon remanded Greenwood on bail for sentencing next month.
