Cyclist suffers serious injuries after falling from her bicycle near Montacute; Driver charged after Christmas Day fatal

A woman is in a critical condition after falling from her bicycle near Montacute in the Adelaide Hills. Meanwhile, police have charged the driver involved in a fatal crash on Christmas Day.

A cyclist is in a critical condition after crashing her bicycle near Montacute in the Adelaide Hills this morning.

Police and paramedics rushed to Montacute Road just after 8.20am after reports a woman had fallen from her bicycle.

The 53-year-old Tranmere woman suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in a critical condition.

A police spokesperson said it appeared to be a single bicycle crash.

“Hills Fleurieu Police and Major Crash attended the scene of the crash and found no evidence of any other vehicle having been involved,” they said.

Roads were closed in both directions at the intersection of Corkscrew Road, but have since reopened.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Meanwhile, a female driver who allegedly struck a pedestrian on the Sturt Highway at Port Julia on Christmas Day has been arrested.

A 37-year-old Hectorville woman died at the scene of the crash.

A 61-year-old Yorke Peninsula woman has been charged with aggravated driving without due care.

She was bailed to appear in the Kadina Magistrates Court later this month.
