Christie Downs woman charged with criminal neglect after infant death

A second person has been charged with criminal neglect following the death of an infant last year. She will face court next month.

A Christie Downs woman has been arrested and charged with criminal neglect following the death of an infant last year.

The 33-year-old woman was arrested on Friday following an investigating into the death of a 21-day-old boy on April 23, 2021.

The boy was unresponsive when he was brought to the Noarlunga Hospital by his parents on that date.

He was unable to be revived and was pronounced dead shortly after.

The infant’s death was declared a major crime.

The woman has been granted bail and will appear in court next month.

She is the second person to be arrested in relation to the incident.

On June 18 last year, Christie Downs man, Ashley John McGregor, 31, was arrested and charged with manslaughter and criminal neglect.

He appeared in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court where it was revealed he told police that he had tripped over a dog while he was holding the child.

However, the prosecutor said a coronial report from the medical examiner didn’t concur with that version of events.

“It was found the injuries were inflicted and the child had extensive brain bleeding and fractured ribs,” the prosecutor said.

Magistrate Susan O’Connor denied bail and McGregor is expected to face court again this month.
