A drink driver has faced court for causing serious injuries to her teenage passenger after crashing into a tree at Torrens Park.
Bronwen Iona Bosley, 24, pleaded guilty in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday to causing serious harm to her passenger by driving in a reckless or culpably negligent manner or at a dangerous speed.
The court heard the offence was aggravated as Bosley’s blood alcohol concentration was 0.08 or more at the time of the offending.
Police and emergency services were called to Belair Rd at Torrens Park about 9.15am on May 24 after reports a Holden station wagon hit a tree.
Bosley, from Morphett Vale, along with her 19-year-old passenger from Magill, were rushed to the Flinders Medical Centre with serious but non life-threatening injuries.
Major Crash investigators attended the scene to assist Road Policing Section members with the crash investigation.
The passenger had to be rescued by firefighters.
“She wasn’t physically trapped but medically trapped in the vehicle,” MFS firefighter Paul Moran said at the time.
“We removed the driver’s side of the car and were able to slide her out.”
Morning commuters reported large traffic delays near the intersection of Belair and Grange roads, near the Mitcham KFC, while traffic restrictions were in place on Belair Rd.
On Friday, Magistrate Justin Wickens placed Bosley on simple bail and committed the charge to the District Court next month.
