A Yankalilla man has had a warrant issued for his arrest after he failed to appear at court on Thursday over allegations he defrauded his elderly clients.

Brian John Mitchell, 81, did not appear in the Christies Beach Magistrate Court after being arrested and charged with four counts of aggravated deception earlier this year.

Police allege Mr Mitchell, a former financial planner, deceived his client on September 5 2014, September 11 2015, February 2 2016 and again on November 6 2017.

It is further alleged the victims were deceived into providing money to Mr Mitchell’s non-existent investment products for their retirement, however there was no investment made and the man used the money for other purposes.

The total amount allegedly taken from Mr Mitchell’s clients sits around $130,000.

None of the money has been recovered.

By not attending, Mr Mitchell failed to comply with his bail agreement and a warrant was issued.

Serious and Organised Financial Crime Investigation Section Detectives are continuing the investigation to ascertain whether there are any further victims or offences against Mr Mitchell.

The 81-year-old first appeared in the Victor Harbor Magistrate court earlier this year for further deception charges, where he again allegedly committed the crimes between 2005 and 2017 that involved six elderly victims.

The total amount alleged of stolen money is more than $700,000.

The matter will return to court at a later date.
