Three men plead not guilty over horrifying alleged gang rape of teen girl in Adelaide’s west

Three men allegedly involved in a terrifying gang rape of a teenager in the western suburbs and filming it will face trial after entering pleas.

What happens after a sexual assault?

Three of the five men accused of gang raping a teenager in a western suburbs home after allegedly “pulling her off” a CBD street have pleaded not guilty.

Bedhane Bekele, 27, Besufikad Haile, 22, and Mohammed Abdulahi, 26, all entered not guilty pleas to multiple counts of engaging in sexual intercourse without consent in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Defence counsel for the fourth, Kadir Ahmed, 24, told the court her client had no case to answer, saying “there is not a lot of evidence” against him.

The fifth man accused of the rape, Sadam Isaak, 20, sought an adjournment after changing defence counsel, who needed further time to examine disclosure.

All five men are accused of raping an 18-year-old girl who had been out clubbing with a friend at Zhivago earlier this year.

At the initial bail hearing, the court heard the victim had essentially “blacked out” and woke up to “men on top of her”.

“The victim had consumed a large amount of alcohol … she recalls vomiting in a pot plant while her friend had got into an altercation with some males,” the police prosecutor said.

“She doesn’t recall leaving the city … the next thing she remembers is being on a bed in an unknown house with males standing around her.”

The court heard one male allegedly pushed the alleged victim’s head into his penis before slapping her.

“One male asked if she wanted sex and she said no but he did not listen,” the police prosecutor said.

“She recalls only three men having sex with her however there were multiple used condoms on the floor of the room the next day and she recalled the home as a shared one.”

The court also heard the alleged victim had found Mr Haile on Instagram, messaging him saying she needed the address as she had left belongings at the home.

She then allegedly used the provided address to give to police.

The victim also provided clothing from that night on which police allegedly found DNA relating to Mr Haile.

Mr Haile’s phone was seized and police allege a video filmed by the defendant showed him and the other co-accused having sex with the victim.

The matter will return to court in January.
