A murder charge has been dropped against a woman who allegedly tried to cover up the death of her ex-wife and defiling her body.

Adelaide Magistrate Court on Tuesday heard Jonathan Paul Parker, 48, and Anastasia Narelle Marshall, 29, are jointly charged over the death of Ms Marshall’s ex-wife Krystal, whose body was found after a house fire last year in Aldinga Beach.

During Ms Marshall’s first hearing since being released on home detention, the court heard six charges would proceed against her and Mr Parker – but she was no longer charged with murder.

Court records indicate Ms Marshall is charged with destroying human remains to pervert the course of justice, arson of a building and three counts of assisting an offender.

Mr Parker is charged with murder, destroying human remains to pervert the course of justice and arson of a building. He remains in custody.

The charges arise from the discovery of the body of Ms Marshall’s former wife Krystal Marshall, 38, at their Aldinga Beach home last year.

Emergency services were called to the Aldinga Beach home in October last year following reports of a house fire, discovering Krystal’s body after it was extinguished.

Previously, prosecutors have alleged Ms Marshall conspired with her co-accused – Mr Parker – to avoid any blame for the death.

During previous bail applications for his co-accused, the court heard Mr Parker had been in a relationship with Anastasia Marshall when Krystal was allegedly murdered.

It is also understood Mr Parker had been asked to move out of the Aldinga Beach address where he and the two women were living.

Mr Parker’s identity was initially suppressed before the order was revoked in April.

Prosecutors also alleged Ms Marshall had given police “multiple versions” of events leading up to Krystal’s death, and had discussed finding the home addresses of witnesses.

Craig Caldicott, for Ms Marshall, indicated to Chief Magistrate, Judge Mary-Louise Hribal his client would be entering a not guilty plea to the charges.

Stephen Ey, for Mr Parker, said he needed more time before his client could enter a plea as the case involved “substantial” material.

Outside court Mr Ey said his client would be entering a not guilty plea as well.

Judge Hribal remanded the matter for a date in August.
