Adelaide Remand Centre guard charged with drug trafficking offences

An Adelaide Remand Centre guard has been arrested and charged after allegedly trying to smuggle drugs into the prison.
The Advertiser understands the guard was one of four people arrested on Thursday and Friday over the attempted smuggling.
He was charged with three counts of trafficking in a controlled drug, introduce contraband into an institution and abuse of public office.
In a statement on Friday, police said four people had been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle drugs into the prison.
On Thursday, Police Corrections detectives arrested the guard, a 38-year-old Noarlunga Downs man, a 20-year-old Woodville North woman and a 28-year-old Prospect woman.
On Friday, a 30-year-old Murray Bridge woman was also arrested.
Police allege the guard tried to smuggle suboxone, a drug used to treat opioid dependence, amphetamine and cocaine in to the Remand Centre.
He was bailed to face the Adelaide Magistrates Court on October 4.
The 20-year-old woman and the 30-year-old woman were both charged with three counts of trafficking in a controlled drug and possess a controlled drug for sale.

Police said investigations were continuing and did not rule out further arrests.
“The government cannot comment on this incident at the privatised Adelaide Remand Centre as it is the subject of an ongoing police investigation,” government spokesman said.
