Driver charged after pillion passenger dies in crash between car and motorbike at Paringa

A driver has been charged over a fatal crash in the Riverland where a woman riding as a pillion passenger on a motorbike was killed.

A driver involved in a fatal crash that led to the death of a pillion passenger on a motorbike in the Riverland on Monday has been charged.

Police and emergency services were called to the intersection of Sturt Highway and Murtho Road at 2.45pm on Monday afternoon, after reports of a crash between a Honda sedan and a Honda motorbike.

The passenger on the bike, a Paringa woman, 62, died at the scene.

The rider, a Paringa man, 66, was taken to Berri Hospital in a serious condition.

He was flown to the Royal Adelaide Hospital later on Monday night.

The driver of the car, a Renmark man, 30, was not injured, but on Tuesday was charged with aggravated careless driving.

He was bailed to appear in Berri Magistrates Court on March 8 next year.

The Sturt Highway was closed between Stanitzki Rd and Eighteenth St at Renmark for several hours.

Thie woman’s death was the 94th life lost on SA roads compared with 88 at the same time last year.

It follows a fatal crash at Mt Crawford last week.

Nathan Palmer, 21, was driving along Forreston Rd in the early hours of Tuesday morning when his car crashed into a tree.

Mr Palmer died at the scene while his partner, Jasmine, and her two young children, suffered minor injuries.

Mr Palmer’s friends remembered their mate as a loving man who put others before himself.
