A 29-year-old Somerton Park man to face court after allegedly spitting and biting police officer

A Somerton Park cyclist was arrested after police tried to fine him for riding without lights at midnight, before he allegedly spat and bit the officer.

A Somerton Park man has been arrested after allegedly spitting and biting a Police Officer last night.

At 11.50pm on Monday November 22, a patrol officer stopped a cyclist on Harrow Road in relation to riding without lights.

When the officer advised the man he was going to be fined, the man allegedly spat on the officer and attempted to ride away.

The officer chased the cyclist on foot and arrested him.

During the arrest the man allegedly bit and punched the officer.

The officer was taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries and was not admitted.

The 29-year-old man from Somerton Park was charged with aggravated assault.

He has been bailed to appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on 23 December.

Earlier this month, 18-year-old Hayden Moore was sentenced to a two-year good behaviour bond after he was found lying in a pool of his own urine, tripping on LSD before biting a female police officer on her knee.

The court heard just after 11pm on September 4, police were called to the Marion Hotel after reports a man allegedly assaulted a worker.

Police found Moore in the west side of the Marion Hotel car park before he tried resist the arrest, attempting to punch another police officer with his right hand and biting another officer on the knee, causing instant pain.

Police were able to restrain the 18 year-old on the ground once again with assistance from the hotel staff.
