Local sporting power couple Madi Wilson and Matt Short are expecting their first child together.

The talented Adelaide-based pair, who announced their engagement last October, shared the exciting update with Instagram followers on Wednesday night.

Olympic gold medallist Wilson broke the news via a glamorous red carpet shot from a recent cricket event in which she is touching her growing baby bump beside a beaming Short.

Tagging the Strikers player, she simply captioned the post: “Mum and Dad” with a red heart emoji.

Fans flooded the comments section with congratulatory messages, including fellow Olympian Taylor McKeown, who wrote: “Oh my gosh what. Congratulations!!! This is the best.”

Fellow swimmer Shayna Jack also offered her support, along with Tamsin Cook, Ariarne Titmus and Sharon van Rouwendaal.

Wilson followed up this morning with a touching video of the two walking hand-in-hand along the beach, writing: “2 becomes 3. What a journey ours has been, we are excited to announce we are expecting our rainbow baby in 2024. It has been a whirlwind 12 months and we are so excited for what the future holds.”

A “rainbow baby” is used to describe a baby born after the parents have had a pregnancy loss.

The news comes after Wilson revealed a breast cancer scare in February 2023, having had four benign tumours removed.

Months later, the Queenslander shared her fertility fears with News Corp, revealing her period had stopped for almost a decade at the height of her Olympic training.

Last October, the couple revealed their plans to tie the knot on the platform, with Wilson spruiking her new ring and writing: “20/10/23 YES.”

Wilson, who previously dated fellow swimmer Kyle Chalmers, has won two gold medals as a member of the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay team, first at the Rio Olympics in 2016 and again at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The 29-year-old is a current holder of five relay world records.

Meanwhile, Short, 28, was awarded the Big Bash League’s player of the tournament last year.

In his acceptance speech, he thanked his adopted home town of Adelaide.

“I’ve got Adelaide to thank,” Short said as he accepted the award. “I’ve been there for five years now. The first few years didn’t go to plan but to be given the chance up the top of the order there, that’s where I thrive.”
