Olympic swimming champ Madi Wilson reveals health scare in emotional Instagram post

Olympic swimming champ Madi Wilson – who now calls Adelaide home – has revealed an alarming health scare is behind her absence from a Dolphins training camp.

Olympic swimming champion Madi Wilson has revealed a terrifying health scare is behind a temporary break from training with the Dolphins.

On Sunday night, the Queensland-born swimmer, who now lives in Adelaide, took to Instagram to share an emotional post detailing her experience with breast cancer.

“I have a lot of messages coming through about why I’m not on camp currently with my Dolphins,” she wrote.

“We found 4 tumours in my breast which we needed to take biopsies of.”

The tests confirmed the tumours were benign but the 28-year-old star relay swimmer said it was “one of the most scary things I’ve experienced in my life.”

“I’ve learnt to appreciate so much more,” she said.

And it’s not the only health issue Wilson has faced in recent months.

She went on to explain she has nerve damage in her arms.

“It’s a bit complex to get into … the good news is I’ve been able to train through it all and continue on my goals,” she said.

Wilson also recently battled an eating disorder.

“I have over the past few years battled an eating disorder associated with control issues”, she revealed in an Instagram post from November 2022.

Dolphins Australia welcomed 90 of the country’s leading swimmers to the Gold Coast last week for Swimming Australia’s annual National Event Camp.

Wilson specialises in sprint events and has been a member of three world record Australian relay teams.

She also took out bronze in the women’s 200m freestyle event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Wilson said she will join the camp following more scans this week.

Only a week ago, Wilson debuted her new romance with Adelaide Strikers star Matt Short.

The pair stepped out at the Australian Cricket Awards in Sydney on January 30, marking their first public appearance.

They shared several happy snaps on social media from cricket’s night of nights.

“Ending BBL (Big Bash League) 12 thanks for all the messages and support, hopefully bigger things next year,” Short posted on Instagram.”

“Deserves the hardest launch,” Wilson wrote in her post along with a rocket emoji.
