South Adelaide have extended their win streak and push to the finals with an all important win over Contax in a huge grand final rematch. Watch the replay.

A sizzling South Adelaide side have exacted their revenge, taking down the reigning premiers Contax 56 - 52 in an epic grand final rematch.

In a game that proves pivotal for ladder positions in the lead up to finals, South Adelaide will be able to celebrate having now taken down one of the best teams in the competition this season.

Both teams proved exactly why they were last year’s grand finalists as they took to the court switched on from the first centre pass.

Bodying up nicely on defence, it was participation and placement from South Adelaide’s Maggie Kerr that took South Adelaide to an early first quarter lead 18-15.

The next two quarters would see an evenly contested battle through the middle where scores would remain level to end each quarter.

South Adelaide captain Jess Paradiso was a workhorse pushing the ball down the court and into the goal ring to set up her shooting counterpart in her favourite spot - right under the ring.

While Contax goal defender Jazmin McKay would prove a class act in slowing down Paradiso, it was another defender who impressed on her Premier division debut.

Cue, Anna Goad.

Coming up from the Reserve division, Goad stepped up in the third quarter to really put the pressure on inside the shooting circle.

The fourth quarter was up for grabs and South Adelaide gripped on tightly as momentum swung their way.

Creating the largest lead of the game of six points midway through the quarter, it was South Adelaide’s ball movement and defensive pressure that proved most prominent to help escape with the win.

They will now continue their push for finals, sitting on the cusp of the top four on the ladder.

Contax v South Adelaide (Reserves) 

Contax continue to prove why they’re at the top of the table, taking down a hungry South Adelaide side 60 - 46.

After gaining an early lead in the first quarter, Contax would continue to finish in front at the end of each period.

Goal shooter Samaya Oakley showed her elite shooting, racking up 42 points - marking one of her best performances so far this season.

Late in the game, Anna Goad who was backing up from just playing in the Premier division, was brought in to replicate her impressive defensive performance in the earlier game.

While South Adelaide fought to keep it close, momentum would continue to swing towards Contax and ultimately give the largest lead of the game of 14 points to bring in the final buzzer.

They will look to bounce back against a strong Garville side next week.

South Adelaide has won its last three Netball SA Premier League games to enter the finals discussion for 2025, but faces a major challenge against reigning premier Contax in an epic grand final rematch this Friday night.

The Panthers currently sit two wins outside of the top four and are in strong form heading into this week’s big clash, recently topping Metro Jets 74-41.

The South Adelaide v Contax match will be available live and exclusive on KommunityTV from 7pm.

Star player Jess Paradiso said the team had needed time to gel with new players in the early season and had now built confidence heading into a stretch of tough games.

“It has obviously been a lot more positive for us and it has been important to build some confidence,” she said.

“To a degree we’re playing like we were last season but we also have a lot of different players and we’ve changed our game style a bit.

“It’s nice to get some wins on the board and now we’re hoping we can continue to build on that.”

South Adelaide lost to Contax by 10 in round one of the season but was well in the game until the final quarter.

Paradiso believes her team has become more consistent since the first week of the year and said it was better poised to challenge the 2024 premier this time around.

“I think we have a lot more game sense and we’re working out how to push through the games and stay competitive,” she said.

“The biggest thing we’re going to need to do against them is stick with it and continue to execute through four quarters.

“We know from now on we need to win as much as possible and we probably need to knock off two of the top four sides to make finals.

“It would be big if we can manage a win on Friday but we’re also keeping that week-by-week mentality regardless.”
