SA girls team coach Matt Bradley said his players were eager to pull on the famous red jumper and represent their state.
“They feel very honoured and privileged to make history as the inaugural SA girls team. They can’t wait,” Bradley said.
“A lot of the girls probably weren’t aware of that at the start of the trials and trainings, but as the weeks have gone on they’re realising the significance of wearing the state guernsey.
“For them to be able to do that and play at a national championships like this is fantastic for their development and female footy in general.”
The Croweaters will kick off their quests for the national titles with the boys and girls teams in action against NSW to open the championships on Sunday morning.
Faith Lutheran College and Tanunda Football Club product Scarlett Kelly will captain the SA side.
The talented defender said she was looking forward to testing herself alongside her new teammates against the under-12 players in the country.
“I’m really excited to get the chance to play for South Australia,” Scarlett, 12, said.
“It’s just great to be part of the team and then to be named captain … I can’t wait.”
A breeding ground for some of the sport’s biggest modern day stars, the championships will also involve education and team bonding sessions across the week-long carnival.
States will play each other once in both the girls and boys draws to determine winners of the respective national titles.
KommunityTV’s broadcast will begin from 10.00am on Sunday, August 7.
