Woodville-West Torrens has held off a storming South Adelaide to claim victory by the slimmest of margins in the SANFL Under-17 Futures on Thursday.

After trailing by more than six goals after the first quarter, the Panthers gradually pegged the visitors back only to fall agonisingly short in a one-point defeat at Noarlunga.

The match was exclusively live streamed by KommunityTV, along with the futures clash between Norwood and Central District, and replays of both games are available to watch in the players above and below.

Woodville-West Torrens’ eventual 10.9 (69) to 10.8 (68) victory looked under threat in the fourth quarter as the home side peppered the goals but could not convert enough in a tense finish.

The Eagles were dominant early, piling on seven goals to one in an ominous first term before the Panthers worked themselves back into the contest.

At Norwood Oval, the Redlegs made it look easy against Central District in a dominant 18.12 (120) to 8.3 (51) win.

Norwood also shot out to a big lead at quarter time, but unlike in the other contest, the Dogs were unable to stop the bleeding in the one-sided affair.

PREVIEW: HOW PICKETT JNR IS FORGING HIS OWN FOOTY PATH

He may carry the name of his AFL cult hero father but Byron Pickett Jnr doesn’t necessarily share all the same attributes.

The son of 204-game Port Adelaide, North Melbourne and Melbourne great Byron Pickett, Pickett Jnr stands at 188cm tall and is making his own way in the junior ranks at Woodville-West Torrens.

The 17-year-old will feature for the Eagles in the SANFL Under-17 Futures next Thursday, which will be exclusively live streamed.

The games, which were originally scheduled for this Thursday afternoon have had to be pushed back a week, but KommunityTV remains your only place to watch the action.

We will broadcast a double-header fixture from 2pm with South taking on Woodville-West Torrens and Norwood facing Central District.

Though he still shows flashes of his father’s trademark toughness, Pickett Jnr said he hoped to develop his own style as a tall forward.

The father-son prospect will use this Thursday’s match to stamp his credentials as he looks to be a part of the Eagles’ under-18 set-up in 2023.

“Hopefully I can put my best foot forward, get picked to join pre-season next year and go from there,” Pickett Jnr said.

“It’s great to have a mentor like my dad and making it to the highest level and following in his footsteps would be a dream come true.

“But I’m just looking forward to playing good footy.”

A prolific forward, Pickett Jnr spent the first part of this year playing senior football for Kambalda Football Club while living in Western Australia.

He has returned to Adelaide and on Sunday kicked six goals in a best on ground performance for Port District’s under-17.5 side, a strong showing ahead of this Thursday’s match for the Eagles.

Pickett Jnr said he also drew plenty of inspiration from his cousin, Melbourne premiership young gun Kysaiah Pickett.

“I call him big brother because we’ve grown up together almost our whole lives … I take a lot of positives from what he did, coming over here from WA and chasing his AFL dream,” he said.

Designed to shine a light on country talent and unearth diamonds in the rough, the SANFL Under-17 Futures matches give clubs a chance to look at talent not already involved in their under-18 programs.

The South v Eagles match from Noarlunga and the Norwood v Central clash from Norwood Oval will both get underway from 2pm next Thursday.
