“I’m hoping to take out the win, but I’m also looking to just have some fun and meet new people,” Smith said.

“I know a lot of skaters from around Australia and I might only get to see them once or twice a year, so it’s a good opportunity to catch up.

“Events like the Southern Rumble definitely improve my ability and my confidence to try new things against the best skaters in the country.”

Smith has a history of punching above his weight, previously winning the Rumble on the Reef 15-and-under section and 13-and-under national title at just 12-years-old.

The young skater, who is contracted to worldwide skate brand Etines, said continuously working on his craft and building his confidence had been the key to his fast development.

“I’m just always trying to push myself and try new things,” Smith said.

“Confidence is absolutely a big part of it, too, and I’m always really confident to try a range of things on any stage.”

Smith has also benefited from the ongoing support of his mother, Nicole, while his father, Brad, has been a keen skater for decades and regularly hits the park with his son despite an ongoing battle with cancer.

“I never really knew about the cancer until a few years ago but at the time it didn’t effect my skateboarding too much.

“I do remember not going to one tournament when I was about 10 because he wasn’t going.”

His mum added:

“Bohdi and Brad hit the skate park every night which is great.

“The apprentice has definitely surpassed the master, I think.”

With street skating now a regular event at the Olympics, Smith has his sights set on an appearance at the 2028 games.

He believed consistent strong performances at national and international events would set him on the right path.

“I absolutely want to go to the Olympics and performing in these tournaments will be a key part of that.

“In the short term I want to keep improving my skating and fitness, make it into SASI or a skate school and travel overseas to compete as well.”
