Finals debutant and SANFLW surprise packet Sturt has quickly elevated its goals from top four to the big prize, according to captain Maya Rigter.
Entering Sunday’s semi-finals as the only club not to have claimed a women’s premiership, the Double Blues have been 2022’s big improvers and will now face North Adelaide at Prospect Oval this Sunday for a spot in the grand final.
Glenelg and South Adelaide will face off in a do-or-die clash in the other semi-final with the double-header live streamed on The Advertiser website from 12pm today.
Rigter, whose Sturt side won five straight to begin the year and set up its inaugural finals campaign, said the Double Blues had no fear having also earnt the double chance.
“Now that we’re here, it’s now like why can’t we go all the way,” said Rigter.
“We had some strong form to finish of the year and we feel like we’re still peaking and have more to go.”

REPLAY: Glenelg v South Adelaide semi-final
While the Double Blues were the hottest side in the opening rounds, their semi-final opponent North have been the in-form outfit in the second half of the season.
Prior to a 10-point loss to Glenelg in the final round the Roosters had won eight-straight to sew up the minor premiership.
Skipper Kristi Harvey said there was a good buzz at the club leading into the clash with Sturt.
The Roosters will be the only semi-final side with the benefit of home-ground advantage on Sunday.
“You don’t want to be overly confident but we’ve got a lot of faith in our game plan and how we go about things, so quietly that little hum is around at the moment,” Harvey said.
“Covid knocked us around in those first three to four rounds and then we came good.
“There’s still a few things we need to work on but it’s pretty exciting when we get it right.”
Sturt and North’s only clash in the minor rounds was a tough, physical affair with the Double Blues prevailing 1.4 (10) to 0.7 (7) in a low-scoring scrap.
REIGNING PREMIER WON’T LET GO EASILY
When Glenelg skipper Ellie Kellock arrived with the premiership cup to meet her rival SANFLW semi-final captains she was unsurprisingly reluctant to remove the black and gold ribbons representing last year’s grand final triumph.
The reigning premiers will face South Adelaide in their quest to reach the preliminary final and move a step closer to back-to-back flags.
Kellock said she expected another close encounter with the Panthers after winning their Round 11 clash by a single point.
“We try and wipe last year from the memory bank and really focus on this year,” Kellock said.
“We’ve got a very talented team so hopefully this year’s group can bring home the cup again.”
The Tigers will be without the experience of vice-captain Chelsea Packer after the veteran was suspended one week for a high bump in last week’s win over North.
South Adelaide meanwhile will hope to continue its momentum after securing its finals berth with a victory over Norwood in the final round that determined which of the two sides would claim fourth spot.
Panthers defender Sam Pratt, stepping in for injured skipper Brianna Wedding, said they were coming into form at the right time and backed in the side’s big-game ability.
“It was a bit weird not having that guarantee of getting into finals, so it was a big push coming into last week and I think it’s really going to drive us forward now,” Pratt said.
The first semi-final between Glenelg and South Adelaide will be broadcast live on advertiser.com.au from 12pm on Sunday. North Adelaide and Sturt’s semi-final will follow at 2.10pm.
