Eight South Australian players have made the cut for the 2022 AFLW under-18 All-Australian team after the state’s undefeated run at April’s national championships.
South Australia – coached by Tim Weatherald who has also been selected as All-Australian coach – experienced big wins against Western Australia, Victoria Country and Victoria Metro, with the SANFLW’s youngest stars all impressing.
Defenders, midfielders, rucks and forwards have all been selected from the state team – see who made the cut below.
SHINEAH GOODY (Woodville-West Torrens, Southern Eagles-Edithburgh)
Goody continued the momentum of her impressive year in the SANFLW with an outstanding NAB AFLW National Championships campaign.
The midfielder dominated the tournament, notably in SA’s game against Western Australia during which she racked up 34 touches, 10 marks, nine tackles and a goal.
She was named the MVP of the tournament as well as South Australia’s MVP.
KEELEY KUSTERMANN (West Adelaide, Goodwood Saints)
Kustermann’s year keeps getting better and better.
Selected as captain of South Australia, her versatility was on full display throughout the nationals as she won her fair share of contested ball and distributed efficiently to teammates.
Kustermann’s selection comes as no surprise and she’ll be a SANFLW team of the year contender as well as she continues to dominate for the Bloods.
AMELIE BORG (North Adelaide, Golden Grove)
Borg has been a sturdy defensive presence throughout 2022 and this was no different during nationals.
The key defender was a big part of South Australia’s dominant run, winning countless aerial contests and backing her teammates up at ground level.
She’ll look to continue her strong form in the SANFLW, with the Roosters aiming for a flag this season.
HANNAH EWINGS (North Adelaide, Roopena-Whyalla)
Ewings was a top performer as a forward and midfielder for South Australia and saw herself selected as a result.
The talented Rooster booted three goals against WA and also had 20 touches and two goals against Vic Country in a consistent tournament.
Ewings remains one of SA’s most talented young players.
GEORGIA MCKEE (Central District, Glenunga)
Playing a similar role to Ewings in SA’s side, Central District’s Georgia McKee was a major contributor.
Also tallying three goals against WA and 20 disposals and two majors against Vic Country, McKee was unstoppable through the middle and the forwardline.
Her performance on the national stage comes as no surprise after a fantastic year for Central District.
SARAH GOODWIN (Glenelg, Goodwood Saints)
Goodwin is one of the most talented young half-back flankers in the country and she proved it for South Australia.
She turned in outstanding shifts against Vic Country and Vic Metro and was one of the best on the park with her ability to drive along the wing or through the middle and set up her teammates.
She’ll be a star prospect to watch once SANFLW finals rolls around.
MATILDA SCHOLZ (Glenelg, Mitcham)
Another prospect out of Glenelg, SA ruck Matilda Scholz played a significant role in the team’s success at nationals.
Her consistent tap work gave players like Goody, Syme, Kustermann, McKee and Ewings first use throughout the team’s contests and was a key part in each win.
SACHI SYME (Norwood, Port Lincoln)
Syme’s ability to win the ball through the middle of the park and also hit the scoreboard saw her selected as an All-Australian.
She was impressive in each outing for South Australia, and produced her best display against WA, getting her hands on plenty of the ball and also booting two majors in a big win.
