Adelaide University Reds hoped to cause a massive upset when they take on favourites Football SA in the under-17 girls’ cup final at 11am, said centre-back Lili Rinaldi before the game.

Uni is coming off an impressive 2-1 semi-final win over Adelaide Comets, while the FSA side carries momentum from a 4-1 defeat of Modbury Vista.

“FSA has been our toughest opponent throughout the season and we’ve had some really good games so it’s going to be a hard fight for both teams,” Rinaldi says.

“I definitely feel that if we show up on Sunday with the right mentality and attitude we can push towards a win and cause an upset.”

Uni has established a hard work mantra throughout this season and Rinaldi believed this would set them up for the silverware on Sunday.

Vista midfielder Abbey Fagan believe her team was ready to face an in-form City, who last week trounced Salisbury Inter 6-0.

“City are a great team, so we know we’ll have to bring our ‘A game’ if we want to win,” Fagan said.

“We’re ready to take them on though, and really looking forward to the challenge.”

Fagan said while her team was excited to have made Sunday’s final, they knew how well they would need to play defensively.

After beating Campbelltown 2-0 last week, Fulham’s defence looks to be in strong form.

“We’ll be looking to repeat that.”

In the under-13 cup final, Fulham United Red goes head-to-head with Adelaide University Red.
