It was a huge day for Henley Sharks Blue as the curtain came down on a successful SANFL junior season.

Henley featured in three of the four finals at Stratarama Stadium - and won them all.

No performance was better than the U15 division one boys success over Unley Jets Blue.

Down 67-47 at the final change, Henley outscored their opponents 23-1 in a nervy last quarter to emerge as unlikely champions - 70-68.

Their golden grand final run started earlier in the day with the U15 division one girls side posting a 90-point success over Glenunga Blue.

The Henley U16 division one girls team closed out the day with a 38-18 win over Glenunga.

Port Districts took the U16 boys division one title at Maughan Thiem Kia Oval but couldn’t follow it up with success in the boys U17.5 title game, as Goodwood Saints cruised to a 40-point success.

PREVIEW

It’s the climax of a massive season on Sunday when SA’s top young footy stars chase silverware at the SANFL Juniors U15 and U17.5 grand finals.

Blackwood, Glenunga, Goodwood, Tea Tree Gully, Walkerville, Hectorville, Athelstone, Edwardstown, Unley, Marion, Payneham Norwood Union, Smithfield, Mitcham, Fitzroy, Angle Vale, PHOS Camden, Flinders Park, Broadview and Port District will all be represented across 19 games at five separate venues.

While Goodwood is aiming for back-to-back flags in the U17.5 boys division one competition, Port District – led by top goalkicker Kayne Hodges, midfielder and halfback Roy Sinclair, Hudson Angove and captain Logan Rose – is looking to make up for last year’s grand final loss.

Magpies coach Damien Angove said his team was hungry for success after last season’s disappointment.

“We were in front until late in last year’s game, so we hope we’ve learned from that now and can take some motivation from that,” Angove said.

“We’ve come from behind a bit recently, so the team has definitely shown it has grown in character and composure.

“Goodwood is a great side and we match up really well with each other, so we’re expecting a tough game.”

District has been on a tear through the past month, winning their last five games, including the second semi-final, to earn an extra week off before the big dance.

Angove believed his players would benefit from the break as they attempt to achieve the perfect end to their season.

“Preparation has been really good. We probably needed that extra week because we had a few sore boys,” he said.

“We’re very excited for the game, we’ve been in some good form and our defensive set up has really been clicking.

“It’ll be the best day of the boys’ lives if we can get the win, so we’re ready to go. It would mean the world.”

Action starts at 10.15am.
