While Brett James admits his 15-year-old son Archie’s height may have come from the other side of the family, the SA Football Hall of Famer hopes he has passed on his passion for the Norwood.
“Archie’s gone way past me in height already, he’s a touch over six foot now so he has me well and truly covered,” the former Redlegs captain and premiership player said.
“He got that from my wife’s side.”
James – a two-time premiership winner with the Crows who in 1997 claimed the AFL premiership and backed it up with a SANFL flag in the same week – said it was special to see Archie wear the Redlegs guernsey.

“The club has been a big part of my life,” he said.
“I was a Norwood fanatic growing up and was rapt when I first went through that process of going out to the club that he’s going through now.
“The older he’s got the more he’s learnt about what Norwood represents and what I did there.”
Archie will be one of several sons and daughters representing the clubs of their famous fathers at the SANFL Intrastate Carnival, which kicks off Tuesday.
Also running out for Norwood will be Crows premiership player Matthew Robran’s daughter Aleesha and twins Jim and Annabel, the children of two-time team of the year Redleg Richard Kelly.
KommunityTV will exclusively live stream 24 matches from the three-day carnival.
Archie – a centre-half forward who can also run through the midfield – said he was thrilled to be picked in the squad and follow in his dad’s footsteps at The Parade.
“It’s going to be fun and I’m hoping I’ll be able to develop out at Norwood,” said Archie, who plays locally for Tea Tree Gully.
“Dad’s got lots of stories from his SANFL and AFL days, so it’s pretty cool to play for the same club he did.”
Featuring under-15 metro and country boys teams along with under-14 and under-16 girls, the annual SANFL Intrastate Carnival sees rising talents from all eight traditional SANFL clubs on display.
Each day eight matches across two ovals will be broadcast live and exclusive by KommunityTV.
