South Australia’s top athletics talents are set to descend on the SA Athletics Stadium this weekend for the State Track and Field Championships.
With The Advertiser set to live stream the action from Friday to Sunday, we’ve picked out 10 athletes to watch during the broadcast.
From rising stars to record breakers and Olympians – the field is well-stocked with competitors from a range of disciplines and age groups.

MARLEY RAIKIWASA
Tea Tree Gully Athletics Centre
One of Australia’s most promising throwers, 16-year-old Marley Raikiwasa holds state records in the women’s under-20, under-18 and under-16 discus as well as the under-18 shot put.
The Tyndale Christian School student and Tea Tree Gully Athletics Centre member last week threw a World Athletics U20 Championship discus qualifier of 49.97m.
Last year – as a 15-year-old – she was one of four SA athletes to be named in the 2021 U20 Australian athletics team
AIDAN MURPHY
Saints Athletics Club
The 18-year-old son of two-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist Tania Van Heer is one of the fastest rising names in SA athletics.
Murphy, who holds five state records including three broken this season, took out the 200m at the Adelaide Invitational last weekend and is aiming to claim the men’s open record at the championships.
His 200m personal best of 20.62s is just shy of Bruce Frayne’s mark of 20.59s set way back in 1980.
ILUKA-ROSE TAYLOR
Western Athletics Club
Young sprinter Iluka-Rose Taylor has no fear when taking on older opposition.
The 12-year-old has already won open age women’s 400m races and is in with a shot to take out the 400m State Championship title.
Iluka-Rose will also compete in the 100m, 200m and hurdles.
DARCY MILLER
Saints Athletics Club
A World Athletics Under-20 Championship berth is on the cards this weekend for 17-year-old Darcy Miller.
The Saints Athletics Club, who also competes in shot put, member broke the U20 discus state record last weekend at the Adelaide Invitational and fell just shy of a World Championships qualifier.
Miller has come a long way since originally taking up athletics to get a day off school before building a shot put circle in his backyard by hand.
TESSA EBERT
Port Adelaide Athletics Club
An accomplished cross country runner, 13-year-old Tessa Ebert will take to the track in the 800m and 1500m at the State Track and Field Championships.
The Port Adelaide Athletics Club member and Westminster School student took out the both events in the under-14 age group at last year’s event and was also named the 2021 Athletics SA under 14 athlete of the year for cross country, roads and walks.
ANGUS HINCKSMAN
Southern Athletic Club
One to watch in both the 800m and 1500m T38 events, Southern Athletic Club’s Angus Hincksman is a para athlete who continues to impress.
The 16-year-old, who has cerebral palsy which affects his left arm and both legs, holds 11 national T38 records across a range of age groups in 800m, 1500m, 5000m and shot put.
JORDAN McMILLAN
Saints Athletics Club
A Bay Sheffield winner at just 14 years of age, Jordan McMillan will take on the 100m and 200m at the State Track and Field Championships.
The 17-year-old Saints Athletics Club sprinter is in good form after running 11.93s to win the women’s 100m B final at the Adelaide Invitational.
ISAAC HEYNE
Hills Districts Athletics Club
Isaac Heyne will be hoping for a big performance after running fourth in the 500m at the Adelaide Invitational on Saturday.
The 22-year-old will run the same distance this weekend, following on from victory in the open men’s State 3000m Championships earlier this month and the Road 5km Championships late last year.
In 2019, Heyne finished first in the under-20 men’s 5000m final at the Australian Track and Field Championships, dedicating the win to his mum who died of cancer.
MATT CLARKE
Olympian Matt Clarke will tackle the men’s 5000m at the State Track and Field Championships.
After going to Tokyo for the 3000m steeplechase, the Victorian-turned South Australian ran a 13:43.91 to take sixth place at last weekend’s Adelaide Invitational.
While the steeple remains his specialist event, Clarke told The Advertiser he would focus this year to become a better all-round runner.
ALEX DUNN
Western Athletics Club
With an impressive start to the season already under his belt Alex Dunn will be hoping for more success at the State Track and Field Championships
The 15-year-old from Western Athletics club broke the state record in the men’s under-16 100m hurdles in December running 13.22s.
The in February, he ran a national qualifying time (15.28s) in the under-18 110m hurdles race.
Dunn will compete in the 110m hurdles along with the 100m and 200m this weekend.
