Cairns Hockey: Saints to ensure youngster ‘enjoys’ A-grade debut

Saints youngster Zara Seivers will make her Cairns Hockey Association A-grade debut in Saturday night’s Round 7 clash against Brothers.
The 13-year-old, who plays for Saints 18A side, has been a standout in the junior division and is set to get her first taste of the top grade this weekend after earning a call-up from A-grade coach Kylie McArthur.
“That’s a highlight for her and we just want to make sure she enjoys her first run out on the field with everyone,” McArthur said.
“There’s no pressure on her, we just want her to come out, enjoy the experience and have a crack.”
The ladies in sky blue handed defending premiers Souths their first defeat of the season in a gritty 1-0 victory last week, in what McArthur said was her side’s most complete performance since the season restart.
She said the players were hitting their straps at just the right time, with three rounds of the season remaining.
“What’s really hurt us is turnovers, but our passing and holding the ball was a lot better against Souths,” she said.
“All those little things that we’ve been working on just really clicked for us. The goal now is to continue that for the rest of the season.”

The return of midfield gun Hannah Sealby for Saturday’s match against Brothers will provide an extra boost for the side.
“She’s just a really smart player who goes about her business, does her job, and does it well,” McArthur said.
