Henley High School has received a fresh new look after a $12 million redevelopment including 22 new classrooms, an updated administration area and refreshed gateway.
The project, which took over a year to build, was completed in 2021, with students using the facilities since term one of 2022.
Due to significant delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Minister for Education, Training and Skills Blair Boyer attended the school this morning to officially open it to the school community.
“The new school infrastructure has a contemporary and modern design, so students can engage in learning in a variety of ways,” Mr Boyer said.
“These upgrades ensure students learn in the best facilities – giving families a great public school locally.”
Henley High Principal, Tony Sims said the new spaces were “great” and expressed the “refreshing” impact the classrooms’ advanced technology has had on teachers and students.
“The technology in the new facilities is also suitable for staff purposes as we are a high user of technologies,” he said.
The school is also well-known for its successful sports academy and strong STEM program. Among the school’s alumni are AFL stars Izak Rankine and Jack Lukosius.
The revamped learning spaces will add to the school’s current offerings with the classrooms being dedicated to science, health, food, technology and the arts.
“It’s also great that we have some new practical spaces like food technology, performing arts and high-end performance sports centre,” Mr Sims said.
Henley High School has been a popular western beaches school since its opening in 1958.
It currently has 1350 students enrolled.
