Rod Stewart has rescheduled his show at Geelong.
Sir Rod cancelled his show for A Day On The Green at Mt Duneed last Saturday due to a throat infection.
The new show will take place on March 31. Cyndi Lauper and Jon Stevens are also on the bill.
Sir Rod said: “I’m so happy to tell you all that I’m feeling great and my A Day On The Green concert in Geelong is happening. Please hang on to your tickets. I hope you can still make it.”
He added: “It’s going to be extra fun with my friends Cyndi Lauper and Jon Stevens. I look forward to seeing you there – we’re going to have a great time.”
Tickets will automatically be valid for the new date without the need for exchange.
Patrons who are unable to attend the rescheduled show will be entitled to a full refund from their authorised point of purchase. Refund requests must be submitted to Ticketmaster by 5pm on March 28.
Promoter Michael Newton, of Roundhouse Entertainment, said: “We are thrilled that we
managed to find a free date in Rod, Cyndi and Jon’s diaries to confirm the new concert at Mt Duneed Estate on March 31.
“We thank everyone for their patience and appreciate ticket holders’ understanding regarding the rescheduled show, and the logistics involved in turning around a huge event like this. We are thrilled we could get this show back on the road for what will now be Sir Rod’s final Victorian show.”
The regional Victorian winery set to host the Rod Stewart concert thanked its “village of supporters”, who offered to buy food, wine and help the venue “pack down” when the show was cancelled at the 11th hour on Saturday.
On Sunday Mt Duneed Estate – where the mega concert was to have been held – said its restaurant was closed for the day.
“We were hoping to spend it (the day) cleaning up after last night’s concert, but it was not meant to be,” the winery posted on social media.
“Thank you to so many … who offered to buy food off us, help us pack down, buy wine etc yesterday. We have the best village of supporters and it means so much.”
Megastar Rod Stewart has explained the reason behind the late cancellation of his Victorian Day on the Green concert with Cyndi Lauper and Jon Stevens was an illness that affected his throat.
The ageing rocker said he was “absolutely downhearted” to have disappointed fans that bought tickets to the much-anticipated Geelong region show.
“I was advised that I have a viral infection and my throat is too irritated to sing,” he said.
“I’m only human and sometimes get sick just like you do.
“My greatest joy is performing for you, so I’m doing everything I can to get on the mend and back on stage!”
Stewart said he had only been advised the virus would prevent him performing late Saturday morning.
Heartbroken fans received news the show has been cancelled early Saturday afternoon, just hours before the gig was scheduled to start.
“Live Nation and Roundhouse Entertainment regret to announce that tonight’s performance by Rod Stewart, Cyndi Lauper and Jon Stevens at Mt. Duneed Estate, Geelong will not go ahead, due to illness,” a statement posted on Mt Duneed Estate’s Facebook page read.
“We apologise for the disappointment and inconvenience to ticket holders. A further announcement regarding the concert arrangements will be made early next week.”
Stewart, 78, who played in Melbourne last week, was initially meant to play in Geelong in October 2020, but the show was postponed to March 2022. That gig was then cancelled due to Covid.
Comments on social media regarding Saturday’s cancellation were flooded with punters’ displeasure and questions.
“This cannot be true,” one person said.
“Was gonna be great weather for a rock with Rod too. Bugger. Get well soon.”
Many ticket-buyers expressed anger that the only medium of communication so far had been via social media.
“Lucky I just checked Facebook or we would have driven down for nothing!!” one woman wrote.
“Flew from Hobart to see Rod at a cost how will we be able to come back over now? Devo!!!
“We bought these tickets for my mum as a present as it’s her dream … gosh that went well,” she commented.
“Maybe a text to the ticket holders would be nice,” another said.
“Not everyone has Facebook.”
The announcement was made a mere three hours before the concert was meant to begin, adding to people’s fury at the haphazard communication.
“Why haven’t I received any notification? Facebook isn’t good enough, I’m already in Geelong,” one man commented,
“Drove from Melbourne this morning and paid $400 for accommodation. Surely you can still put it on at a discounted price?”
