A man has been charged after he allegedly stabbed another man on Palm Island overnight, with the victim needing to be flown to Townsville Hospital for treatment.

In a statement released on Monday, a Queensland Police spokesman said they will allege that a 42-year-old Palm Island man was stabbed once with a knife at a Park Road address, about 12.30am.

“He was taken to the Joyce Palmer Health Service before being transported by helicopter to the Townsville University Hospital for treatment,” the spokesman said.

“The 48-year-old Palm Island man was taken into custody nearby to the scene without incident.

“He has been charged with one count of unlawful wounding and is expected to appear before Townsville Magistrates Court on Tuesday.”

Speaking earlier about the incident, District duty officer Senior Sergeant Joe Matheson said police on Palm Island responded to a disturbance involving two men who were believed to be known to each other.

“The victim has approached the offender who has stabbed him under the left armpit with a knife,” he said.

The Criminal Investigation Branch on Palm Island are investigating the incident.
